ECIA Celebrates 100 Years of Service to the Electronic Components Industry
Association of Radio Manufacturers, founded in 1924, evolved into ECIA.

Atlanta — ECIA is proud to mark its 100th anniversary, tracing its roots back to the Association of Radio Manufacturers, founded in 1924. The modern electronic component industry evolved from several parallel associations formed during the early years of what eventually became the tech-enhanced world we live in today.

“While it hasn’t been a straight line from the Association of Radio Manufacturers in 1924 to what is now the main association serving the entire components supply chain, it is an interesting and instructive story that illustrates our connection to the broader and world-changing electronics industry,” explained ECIA President and CEO David Loftus. “ECIA is the one organization that brings the distributors, the manufacturers, and the manufacturers’ reps together to bring efficiencies to the channel. The 100-year history shows how and why that evolution came about.”

To celebrate this milestone, ECIA has documented a brief history of the association. “Weaving together the different strands of the sales channel, including the standards groups for connectors and passive components, has been a very effective combination, enabling the members of ECIA to accomplish great things since ECIA pulled them together in 2011,” Loftus continued. “We can’t wait to see what this group of professionals can accomplish together in the next 100 years!”
