Member of the Week: Hawk Electronics

We are pleased to honor Hawk Electronics as our Member of the Week!

Hawk Electronics, Inc. is a provider of premier electromechanical components and enclosures. Hawk offers customer driven services such as labeling and kitting as well as custom stocking programs for standard and non-standard items.

What started out with a single distribution contract in 1978 to service a handful of customers in the Chicagoland market - has grown into over 50 lines and 25,000 customers worldwide. Today they service everyone from the single owner-operator business and hobbyist to the largest telecommunications and aerospace companies.

Company president Kip Poncher has served on the NEDA and ECIA boards and regularly supports the Executive Conference. “Hawk has always supported ECIA and NEDA”, said Kip. “The association was built to support the Distribution Channel and provide a voice to all size distributors - ECIA still provides a venue for distributors and manufactures of all sizes to have input and insight for industry events.”

Webinar: Identify your Component Company's Actionable Sales Data (ASD)

TOMORROW! Part 1 | September 9 | 1:00 PM Eastern | Register Today

It’s vital to building successful growth plans. Or more importantly, why it is important to identify this metric and then build your growth plans around it. In this two-part webinar series, Lectrix CEO, Graham Kilshaw takes us through how the Lectrix approach first identifies the cornerstone of their clients’ growth plans, and then how they use that metric to build a measurable sales and marketing plan. Every company in our industry can point to one or two metrics that are directly related to their sales, success and growth. Over the last five years, Lectrix has identified nine (9) of these actionable sales data metrics across different business models. Join ECIA & Lectrix to find or re-confirm yours. Part 2 will be September 22. Use the link above to register for both or one.

Webinar: Future of the Workplace -  Post-Pandemic Trends in Office & Industrial Space

September 30 | 11:00 AM Eastern | Register Today

The global pandemic has fundamentally altered how and where people need to be located in order to complete their work. As the world has changed, so too has the future of the workplace. The work from home experiment turned out to be more successful than anyone thought and cultural norms around the importance of working in the office have changed.

Organizations are no longer just questioning WHEN their employees will return to the office, but WHO will return and at what frequency. This determination is front of mind for all organizations and begs the question on how much and what kind of space will be needed in the future to accommodate a hybrid work environment.

Please join us for a discussion with Brad Wilner and Manny Fitzgerald from CBRE on “The Future of the Workplace”.

Top 50 Distributors Report

New ECIA research has resulted in the production of the first “true” Top 50 Worldwide Authorized Distributor research with valuable detail on the major Asian countries in the electronic components and equipment supply chain.  While there are lists presented as “Top 50” worldwide distributors they all appear to only include a subset of companies that is strongly oriented to Americas and EMEA companies.  The companies headquartered in Asia are commonly overlooked even though they play a large role in the global distribution industry.

According to the research presented in this article, Asia accounted for over 75% of the Top 50 authorized distributor global revenues in 2020.  The Americas and EMEA distribution markets come in far behind at 13.4% and 11.4% respectively.  In addition, 39 out of the top 50 authorized distributors are headquartered in Asia and account for over 63% of distribution revenues in this analysis.

ECIA Research & Analysis

The latest results from ECIA’s Electronic Component Sales Trend (ECST) surveys for August and Q3 2021 show a continuing but moderating cooling of sales expectations in September and through the end of 2021. Following the peak in the index for overall component average sentiment of 157.7 in March 2021, the index began a decline that saw a significant drop in June. However, the overall component index for July, August and the September forecast has seen a moderating decline of month-to-month sales growth momentum. Read more.

Be sure to participate in the September ECST survey. This survey will be be open until September 16.

ECIA Environmental Compliance Update: SCIP Database and PIP (3:1)

The ECIA Global Industry Practices Committee (GIPC) is closely following any global legislation that will impact its members. Two directives, one from the U.S. and one from the E.U. are worthy of attention now.

In the U.S., the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has determined that the chemical phenol, isopropylated, phosphate (3:1) (PIP 3:1) poses a risk to the public and has banned the use of the chemical. The ban was scheduled to go into effect on March 8, 2021 under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Due to the incredibly short compliance window and because PIP has not been regulated elsewhere in the world, it posed a major challenge to identify its potential presence in supply chains.
