Faces of ECIA – Teri Abelairas

What is your involvement with ECIA and what have you gained from your engagement with the association?

TME is a member of ECIA, and I have personally been involved with ECIA through the Speaker Vetting Committee for the past three years. During that time, I have had the opportunity to help review and vet so many inspirational speakers, many of whom I still follow and learn from today.

ECIA has been incredibly valuable to me, especially as I navigated a new industry over the past several years. The electronic components industry has experienced unprecedented challenges and changes, and ECIA has helped me better understand the market through its reports, virtual experts, events, and industry connections. I have learned a tremendous amount and built relationships that have really helped me grow.

What does your company do and what is your role in your company?

I am the Managing Director at TME. TME is a global distributor of electronic components, automation, industrial, and electromechanical products, supporting customers across many different industries.

In my role, I help lead and grow our North American business, support our team, strengthen customer and supplier relationships, and continue building TME’s presence in the North American market.

What is your favorite thing about this industry?

My favorite thing about this industry is realizing how essential it is. Electronic components truly help make the world go around, and before joining this industry, I had no idea how much it touches almost everything around us.

I also really appreciate the people. This is an industry where people come, stay, and build relationships that last for decades. There is a strong sense of connection, loyalty, and shared knowledge, and I think that is very special.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I am a total boy mom to three sons. I still call them my boys, even though they are 28, 24, and 17, and I am not sure they get a vote on that. Any time I get to spend with them is precious. We love camping, fishing, and doing outdoor activities together.

Are you currently binging any shows on Netflix, Hulu, etc.?

Yes, but I have absolutely no self-discipline when it comes to binge-watching. Once I start a show, I tend to watch the whole thing, which usually turns into a very long night.
