The Faces of ECIA

April 2026 Highlight - David HerringPUI

What is your involvement with ECIA and what have you gained from your engagement with the association?
My first involvement was in the 1980’s with So. Cal NEDA. I became a representative for So Cal NEDA on the NEDA board. Spent many years as a board member. I currently represent the small distributors on the ECIA Distributor Counsel.

We have received many benefits from participating with NEDA & ECIA.  Was able to help craft policies, agreements and industry standers. Being engaged with ECIA we participate in up to the minute concerns, information and actions of our industry. The relationships with the other members cannot be understated.

What does your company do and what is your role in your company
PUI is a Passive, Electo-Mechcanical, Interconnect, and Value-Add distributor. I have served as President/CEO of PUI since it was founded in 1980.

What is your favorite thing about this industry?
This is an amazing industry that we are a part of. We as an industry have transform the way the world functions. When I started in this business in 1976 the ‘high tech’ driver was CB radios. I’ve watched it grow from the first PC’s to main frames, laptops, servers, 150 baud modems, fiber, internet, cell phones, to AI and so much more.  What’s not to love?

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Outside of work I play racquetball and pickelball and serve in our church. I also spend as much time with our grandkids as possible.

Are you currently binging any shows on Netflix, Hulu etc.?
I’ve enjoyed the series “The Man On The Inside” with Ted Danson on Netflix. Growing up with Ted on TV, it’s like comfort food to me.
