U.S. Trade Representative Requests Public Comments on USMCA

NAM and ECIA Collaboration

Earlier this month, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative published an official request for public comment on the U.S.–Mexico–Canda Agreement. The notice is part of the process for the schedule six-year review of the landmark agreement signed in 2019. The deadline for comments is November 3, 2025.

ECIA coordinates closely with the National Association of Manufacturers (“NAM”) on many policy issues. NAM is encouraging its members and members of its coalition of sister associations to focus comments on the USMCA on four broad topics:

  • Technical fixes to make the USMCA function better
  • Bilateral (non-tariff) issues in Mexico or Canada that the review could help address
  • New mechanisms or tools that could be built to counter shared challenges in third markets, particularly nonmarket economies
  • Sector-specific agreements or commitments that could be pursued to strengthen North American manufacturing

If you have any questions about submitting comments in response to the USTR’s request, please contact David Loftus ([email protected]) and Ryan Riesterer ([email protected]).

Member of the Week

Established in 1927, the SANYO DENKI Group started with the import and sale of electrical equipment. In 1932, they developed a radio power generator, laying the foundation for our SANUPS brand today that primarily specializes in uninterruptible power supplies. Capitalizing on our expertise in rotary technology gained from SANUPS developments, they introduced Japan's first AC and DC servo motors under the brand name of SANMOTION in 1952. In 1965, they launched the San Ace brand for our cooling fans, leveraging our motor technology. Today, they operate under three product brands: SANUPS, SANMOTION, and San Ace.

Committed to addressing customer needs and social issues, the SANYO DENKI Group has been creating new value by developing industry-leading products that always pursue "high performance," "high quality," and "high added value".

Sanyo Denki has been an ECIA member for 18 years.
