The Faces of ECIA

August 2025 Highlight Part 2 - Neil Hutchinson, Murata

What is your involvement with ECIA and what have you gained from your engagement with the association?
I first got involved with ECIA through the EDS show. At that point, I was managing the Distribution Channel at Murata, and EDS was a great chance to connect with our distribution partners and sales reps. More recently, I’ve spent the last two years on the sponsorship committee for the ECIA Executive Conference. I really see the value in the conference – it offers solid market insights and sparks some great conversations around the challenges our industry is dealing with.

What does your company do and what is your role in your company?
Murata is a global leader in manufacturing the advanced components that are integral to today’s consumer electronics – solutions such as capacitors, inductors, RF filters, and batteries – as well as power and RF modules. I’m currently the General Manager for the EMC Business Development Team at Murata Electronics. Members of our Business Development team serve as technical specialists and the main link between our customers and the factories.

What is your favorite thing about this industry?
Murata operates in a highly competitive market, and we believe that this healthy competition is a key driver of innovation. It inspires me to continually challenge myself every day. Additionally, the people who work in the industry are also very friendly and make it a joy to go to industry events.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
It’s currently summer so you will also find me in my garden a good amount. I also love to go mountain biking, hiking, and my favorite thing to do is snowboarding. Anything to be outdoors!

Are you currently binging any shows on Netflix, Hulu etc.?
I don’t watch much TV aside from sports, but I’m a big college sports fan – so if I can’t be there in person, I’ll definitely tune in. My favorite team is Georgia Tech and I’m fortunate that it’s local.  With my daughters heading off to college soon, I’m also looking forward to checking out some new campuses and catching games while I’m there.
