Jamil was born in Santa Monica, California in 1966 and grew up in Lake Oswego, a suburb of Portland, Oregon. After high school Jamil moved to southern California and started working at Master Electronics, a leading authorized distributor of electronic components, while attending night school at Santa Monica Community College. He transferred to California State University Northridge two years later, where he continued to work during the day and attend night school for another three years. Jamil is currently attending the Owner/President Management (OPM) program at Harvard Business School.
Jamil has 32 years of experience at Master Electronics. His responsibilities have encompassed all aspects of the business including starting on the ground floor in the warehouse, operations, sales, product management, and various executive positions. Jamil was promoted to President of the company in 2007. Jamil also oversees real estate transactions for investment and corporate facility purposes.
Under Jamil’s tenure, the company launched a stand-alone e-commerce strategy under the brand onlinecomponents.com, which today accounts for over 30% of sales. Master has also completed 11 successful acquisitions. The most recent acquisition was Canadian distributor Electro Sonic in 2014. Jamil’s vision for the future for Master is continuing to focus on small to medium OEMs in both the electronic and electrical/industrial markets, having the broadest IP&E inventory in distribution, solving problems for our suppliers and customers, expanding internationally and dramatically growing our e-commerce revenue.
Jamil and Raseel have been happily married for 11 years and have three children ages ten, eight and six. Jamil has two children ages 18 and 16 from a previous marriage. Jamil is a member of Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and Tiger 21. He enjoys traveling, angel investing, reading, hiking and trying to stay fit in his free time.
